Bit about Holland
The Dutch don’t really have a special festive meal, as per the turkey roast in the UK. We went out for a meal on Christmas day evening and the pictures here are of our Christmas Eve meal, which is actually Austrian.
The meats were all brought back from a recent trip to Austria and were served with a green salad, a potato salad and warm sauerkraut. The sliced garlic sausage was very good but the Austrian version of the sausage roll was even better. The sausage roll was made around frankfurters, with a thin slice of cured pork and sauerkraut also in the middle. I am definitely going to try making this, although I may use some of the garlic sausage I brought back with me instead of the frankfurters.
The dessert consisted of poached pear, physalis, clementine and cream, which was a nice palette cleanser after the meat.
