I have to admit, I was expecting a little more from Morocco, although maybe during Ramadan wasn’t the best time to visit! The vegetable and spice stalls looked fantastic and the food stalls that spring up in the evening in Djemaa el Fna in Marrakech certainly look impressive. However, for a country that seems to grow and sell so many spices, the food was surprisingly bland for my palate.
The tagines were quite tasty, but often a bit on the sweet side and the meat pretty variable in quality. I have to say that although I love the Merguez Moroccan sausages, having them cooked in a tagine wasn’t that appealing. I much prefer my sausages with crispy skin.
One of the best dishes I had was actually the fresh oysters in Casablanca. Also, the sardine tagine I ended up eating most of (it was Linda’s order) in Essaouira was extremely tasty and certainly not too sweet.
